What is Prayer Walking?
Prayer walking is simply walking and praying at the same time. It is easy to practice and is good for your body and spirit!

Prayer walking is targeted prayer

Prayer walking can be targeted prayer, which means that your prayer has a purpose.

Points to consider:

What do you want to accomplish?
What is your goal?
Your purpose may be to pray for someone else, pray for yourself or pray for something more global.

Prayer walking is free prayer Prayer walking can be free prayer. You can walk and pray ‘impromptu.’ Let the prayers flow however they will. The act of walking and breathing will help to keep you focused.

Prayer Walking and Attitude

I love walking. It is my favorite exercise because it is free, I get to be in nature and I can be nosey without anybody knowing it. If you have thoughts and feelings of judgment, negativity or anger, try to let those go. The first part of your walk might be just for non-prayer pleasure. The endorphins your body produces will help to alleviate the negativity. Be honest with yourself and God about your motives. There aren’t really secrets anyway, after all. If you still feel sad, judgmental or whatever else, let the passing of those feelings be your prayer purpose. Mission accomplished!

How to prayer walk

Before you begin your first step:
Pray for protection before every prayer walk. If you walk with someone else or with a group, pray for the safety of all. This can be short and sweet, but needs to be from the heart.

Since I like to use beads, it is easy to incorporate Prayer Beads as you walk along. The hand held beads are perfect for prayer walking. Carry the prayer beads in your hand or your pocket.

Begin with one step at a time. Remember to breath as you walk. This sounds kind of odd, but we usually don't concentrate on our breath, but when we do, it helps us to relax and focus all at the same time.

How long and how far should you walk?

Time and distance is totally up to you. Of course, walking is a wonderful physical exercise, and a good goal to work up to is at least 30 minutes a day. Be sure and have the approval of your healthcare provider before beginning this or any other physical exercise. It is important to begin at the appropriate place for your ability level. This isn't a contest or race. If you don’t have a daily walk routine, then perhaps it is time to try it out. Walking is good for your body and spirit.

Like most practices, it is best to establish a routine. At might feel odd at first, but a routine will help make the practice a habit. You might want to choose a specific day(s) of the week, or specific week-ends.

Walk Topics Is Group Prayer Walk an Option?

You can prayer walk by yourself or with others. It is easier for some to stick to a walk routine when they get friends involved. It is way more difficult to cancel out on a walk date with yourself then it is to cancel out on your friends or neighboors. Prayer walk can be done with a group. The group might decide on the prayer intention of the day and pray out loud or in silence. You can also walk in a group, and still have your own personal intentions. Some people find it is easier to stay focus and meditative in the presence of others in the same state of mind. Group prayer walk might be a wonderful option for you!
