Now, let's take a look at each of the glorious mysteries!
The Resurrection
The Resurrection
Jesus' body had been placed in the tomb, a huge stone rolled in front of it, and a unit of Roman soldiers set to guard it. Despite all of this, on the Sunday morning, Jesus rose. The stone was rolled away, and Christ appeared first Mary Magdalene, then to the disciples, then to many of his followers. While his body had been changed in some ways (he was able able to walk into a closed and locked room), he still ate and drank with his disciples, and the marks of the wounds were still present.
The Ascension
The Ascension
After forty days of being present to his followers, Jesus was with them in Jerusalem and from there, he was taken away from them. Just as he went into heaven, he promised that he would return in the same way—a promise that has been anticipated ever since.
The Descent of the Holy Spirit
The Descent of the Holy Spirit
At Pentecost, the disciples and Mary were together in one place. There was the sound of a rushing wind, and tongues of fire appeared over those present. All began to proclaim the good news of the Gospel in various languages that were understood by the wide variety of people who were gathered there for the festival. This was a fulfillment of Christ's promise to send the Holy Spirit to his followers to be present with them.
The Assumption of Mary
The Assumption of Mary
When Mary came to the end of her days, tradition says that God chose not to subject her to the corruption of death's decay. Instead, she was taken up bodily into heaven, to be with her Divine Son.
The Coronation of Mary
The Coronation of Mary
The book of Revelation presents the image of a woman clothed in the sun, with the moon under her feet, and a crown of twelve stars. It's clear that the woman is Mary, and that she occupies a unique place in the human race. Her freely given assent to the will of God brought salvation to all, and she is justly given that royal grace.
