How to Pray

How to Pray
Prayer can take many forms. Christians, for instance might find that by simply wearing a cross pendant they are reminded of the sacrifices of Jesus. This, in turn, puts life into perspective.
The slight nudge or reminder is part of why spiritually inspired jewelry is so popular. Hearts might remind you to be more kind. Holding onto prayer beads at a challenging time can help you to respond with peace, forethought and love.
How to Pray
Prayer can be recited when sitting, kneeling, standing or walking. It doesn't matter. Prayers can be short or long. It doesn't matter. What matters is that you pray! Prayer can be centering and rejuvenating.
Why Pray?
You can pray to:
Access God's will for our life
Praise God
Give Thanks to God
Repent for Sinful Behavior, mistakes, errors of judgement...
Ask for Forgiveness
Seek a favor From God
Maybe even ask God to Curse an Opponent
not all reasons we pray are honorable
How to Pray
The number one 'rule,' if there is a rule is that of intention. Intention requires clear and positive thoughts. If you want to attract positive things in your life, your thoughts and prayers must also be positive.
Here is an example of a positive vs negative comment:
Positive: I want this job
Negative: I don't want to be unemployed
See the difference? Take the energy to put your dreams, desires, and hopes out there in a positive manner. Keep in mind that god's plan is far better than yours. Your job is to recognize and be aware when good things come to you. This can be a challenge when we don't stop to listen! It is also your job to enjoy the beauty that comes your way. It probably won't last forever, so don't miss a good thing by looking forward or backward instead of enjoying today!
How to Pray
Intentions
What kind of intentions can you have?
You might have a specific intention or a general intention or both.
General Intentions:
Help me to see Clear
Thy Wil be Done
I surrender
Let me see joy, feel joy...
Specific Intentions:
Please help me to cure my cancer
I want a raise in my salary (a general intention might be-I want financial security)
Prayer with intention helps you to believe, create and achieve in the areas of your life you wish to. If yiou want something real bad, that is probably a 'divine' desire or what some call destiny. This, too, is God's will, and something you should listen to.
How do you know if it is your will or desire or God's will?
If you are driven to do something, and your motivation is without expectations, it is probably more of your spirit and less of your ego. Consider this: If, while in contemplation, you feel that you are to pursue a profession that would pay a lot less than your currently make. You feel driven to follow this path, but it will mean many changes to your family routine and living arrangements, such as a smaller house and fewer luxuries. Are you strong enough to follow? Are there good reasons why you just can't do it?
My father used to say that the road to heaven is paved with good intentions. Until recently, I took the statement to relate to my intentions toward others, not to myself. Then I thought about the many promises to myself I made, but didn't keep. I considered the times I felt a strong yearning to do something, but didn't do it.
Have you ever heard yourself say: "I meant to do______ but I didn't get around to it because...." Many of us say we want to hear and/or feel God's presence and word, and yet if we were called to make big changes, we would probably (and have probably!) not followed.
How to Pray
Silent Prayer and Verbal Prayer
Prayer can involve silently saying prayers in your head. You may already do this throughout the day, but didn't really think about it. "help me find a parking place" might be one example. If you carry prayer beads in your pocket or on your desk, briefly holding them and gving a quiet word of 'thanks' is an example of silent prayer.
Verbal prayer is saying a prayer out loud. It might be recited, said spontaneously, sung or even cried.
Mantras can be prayer also. Mantras are phrases or words repeated over and over. It might be as simple as saying 'joy' over and over or 'I will' repeatedly. Mantras can be silent or verbal.

What is GOOD Prayer?
One single grateful thought raised to heaven is the most perfect prayer.
