Meaning of Stones

Meaning of Stones

Many rosaries are made out of plastic, wood, cord, and none of these detract from the prayerbead or rosary’s meaning. They are all beautiful. However, over the years various stones have acquired meanings that can enhance their use. Stones can have personal meaning, or they can be part of a shared system of meaning, such as birthstones.

Let's take a look at some of the well known meanings of beads.

Meaning of Stones: the Metal-Gold

Gold is almost a synonym for preciousness. The Mercy Seat of the Ark of the Covenant was made of pure gold; and when the wise men came to lay their gifts before the infant Jesus, one was a gift of gold. Gold is connected to significant anniversaries (like a golden wedding anniversary), and wedding rings are traditionally made of gold. It is not surprising that precious rosaries are made out of this substance.)

Meaning of Stones: the Metal-Silver

Silver has often been regarded as a holy metal. Though not as precious as gold, it has had healing properties attributed to it, and is a symbol for purity.

Meaning of stones: Jet Black

Jet has long been associated with rosaries, and monks often used jet bead rosaries. It has been associated with mourning and grief because of its black color, but need not be limited to that. It is also a color of strength and simplicity, although some rosaries and prayer beads aren't simple at all. Jet black has a long history of being used as a gemstone.

Meaning of Stones: Coral

Coral can be polished to a deep glassy shine, and was prized by the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians, as well as now. In fact it may well be the most ancient of gemstones. Coral is not really a 'stone' although it is used in jewelry-beautiful pieces of jewelry. Itwas once a living creature, and therefore carriea a different kind of energy with it.

Meaning of Stones: Amber

Used from prehistory as an ornament and talisman, amber is a stone derived from life itself, and it was noted early that many pieces of amber contained inclusions of plants and animals. It has been regarded as protection against evil, or as healing.

Meaning of Stones: Agate

In ancient times, agate was seen as being empowering and healing, effective against threats of many kinds. I love the variation of these stones. In fact, each rosary, piece of jewelry and prayer bead set is unique and interesting.

Turquoise

Turquoise keeps one in the feeling of unconditional love and connection to all that is while sard (the dark lines) by itself keeps one in the state of emotional attachments to family, home, their roots (the good memories of childhood) and it also assist in digestion of proteins both animal and vegetable. The turquoise stones with the black lines in them are called Navajo turquoise and helps you to stay in a place of love and connectedness with others. It is a combination of turquoise and sard (sard being the lines).

Meaning of Stones: Jasper

The book of Revelation in the Bible compares the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of God, to jasper; and it was part of the breastplate of the High Priest. It is clear that jasper was highly prized in biblical times.

Quartz

Quartz goes by a variety of names, depending on its color and other properties, and many of his forms are used in making rosaries (amethysts, rose quartz, carnelian, and jasper are all forms of quartz). In its clear form it can split light into a spectrum, creating a rainbow. The most abundant mineral in the Earth’s crust, it is also one of the most beautiful.

The Meaning of Stones: Howlite

Sometimes dyed howlite is often mistaken for turquoise. And the howlite stone has more of the "black" lines than the actual turquoise stone. But by finding the copper traits in a piece of turquoise, it assures you of true turquoise. This stone does best with water cleansing and should not be cleansed with the sun. It should be kept out of the sun as much as possible. Carries the moon's energy or female energy. It is best set in the silver metals, also carrying the moon's energy.

Jade

Jade has been used as a scared stone for centuries. Used for serenity, wisdom, balance, all things associated with the best of spiritual practices. This gem stone is the ultimate symbol of calm and serenity. It helps bring serenity to the mind by releasing negative thoughts. A stone of balance and healing, it alleviates anxiety and fear based emotions. Helps the wearer to sense the truth in all situations. It also helps one with remember their dreams, and provide help with dream-solving. Aids dream recall if placed under pillow.
